What I’ve learnt…. to look forward we must look back

The main focus of my blog has been the aspects of todays life that have been shaped and changed by Mathematics. How technologies have come about and everyday activities now incorporate numeracy and mathematics in many different ways. But, I have also realised that these everyday math uses, that most of us take for granted, have come about from someone is our past having made discoveries and experimented with numbers and techniques.

Through this understanding we are able to include mathematics in many other cross-curriculum areas, such as how the Egyptians built the pyramids (D&T/ History), and how NASA landed a man on the moon (science/ History). We can include mathematics in our teaching in a way that engages and related to the students. They can use it to explore, build, and learn about their own lives as well as their history and possible futures.

Teachers have the ability to spark interest in these subjects and I believe that it is our duty to teach mathematics in a way hat best suits the needs of our students.
